The Red Team Analysis Society (RTAS) is a Boutique Strategic Advisory founded and led by Dr Hélène Lavoix (PhD SOAS), specializing in high-level strategic foresight, early warning and geopolitical risk. RTAS is powered by our advanced methodological research, our high level modeling through Causal Knowledge Graphs and our rigorous scientific analysis.
RTAS provides advice, executive-level training, and research services, including commissioned reports and scenario sets, for national and international security issues, politics, geopolitics, and new technology. RTAS goal is to assist actors in utilizing effective, high-quality, and actionable strategic foresight, early warning, and risk management for political and geopolitical uncertainties. Our emphasis is on promoting best practices grounded in science.
The brief story behind The Red Team Analysis Society
In 2013, Dr Lavoix created The Red Team Analysis Society following her foundational work with the Global Futures Forum. The Red Team Analysis Society was first located in London as Dr Lavoix had lived in London for over 10 years and was awarded her MSc and PhD by the University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).
With time, and having moved to France, Dr Lavoix decided in 2020 it made more sense to move the activity to Paris. The Red Team Analysis Society’s activity remains however international.
Research activity
Our research activity functions as a Strategic Lab, ensuring that our advisory services are always powered by the latest methodological innovations and validated data.
About a name
The name The Red Team Analysis Society (Red Team, Red Team Analysis or RTAS for short) is inspired by Red Team activity or Red Teaming, used initially in the U.S. Army to simulate the activity of opponents in war-gaming or strategic simulations. By extension, RTAS aims at promoting a strategic foresight analysis grounded in science that struggles against our many cognitive, normative and emotional biases. Besides using rigorous yet flexible tools and methodologies, we promote thinking out of the box, struggle against mediocrity and “fake news”, and are not limited by “politically correct” approaches.
Interestingly in the Soviet Union, similar activities were called Blue or Green Team activity (courtesy of Levon Sevunts @LevonSevunts).
